Optimizing Windows Graphic Settings for FSX Play

Optimizing Windows Graphic Settings for FSX Play

The items below are to be performed in addition to the basic graphics card setup provided to you with your software installation guide: Basic Video Card Setup Guide

Windows 10/11 comes with an advanced setting, called hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling, which can boost gaming and video performance using your PC’s GPU.

Typically, your PC's processor offloads graphical/3D data to the GPU to render. This assists with games, apps and videos running smooth. The CPU will collect this frame data and will prioritize and command these one by one to the GPU to render the frame of the software.

Enabling Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling, causes the GPU’s scheduling processor and memory (VRAM) to take over some of the work and processes it in batches to better render the frame. This can allow the GPU to relieve the processor and reduce latency. Ultimately allowing our FSX Play software to run better.

While the GPU hardware acceleration feature is not available to all Windows users, you might be able to test it yourself for potential software performance increase.

Using this article/guide will assist you in enabling it for Windows 10/11.
  1. Right-click on your desktop and select Display Settings
  2. Scroll to and select to open Graphic Settings
  3. Enable Hardware-accelerated GPU Scheduling
  4. Now below this, ensure Desktop app is selected under Choose an app to set preference and then click Browse
  5. Find the FSX Play.exe file in the installation directory and click Add
  6. Click on the new listing for FSX Play.exe and select Options
  7. Select High performance out of the options and select Save
Enabling the the above may assist in frame rate issues and or latency experienced in FSX Play

Note: this is best used on low to medium performance tier CPUs
