GCQuad Distance Doesn't Match FSX Distance

GCQuad Distance Doesn't Match FSX Distance

If you are experiencing this, it is most likely due to the Barometer being active on your device, but not in your software.

In regards to the GCQuad Device:

  • To see this Barometric Pressure, Temperature, and Estimated Altitude on the GCQuad itself, press the ‘OK’ button and use the Up/Down arrows to select ‘Diagnostics.’  Press the Down arrow once to go to the second page and see what the GCQuad is reading for your Barometric Pressure, Temperature, and Estimated Altitude.
  • Then press the < button on the GCQuad itself, go to ‘Settings’ and see what the ‘Air Pressure’ is listed as.

These two bits of information will allow you to better understand how the device is measuring your data due to your exact environment.

In regards to the distance in the FSX software, here’s how to use the GCQuad Barometer settings:

  • After you select the course in PLAY mode you have to click ‘Use GCQ Barometer’ in the bottom RH of the Conditions options.  If in IMPROVE mode, you must click the Conditions shortcut (logo of a flag) or click on the menu icon in the bottom LH corner and then select ‘Conditions’.  From there make sure to click ‘Use GCQ Barometer’ in the top of the Conditions options.

  1. If you can, please test the GCQuad with ‘Air Pressure’ set to ‘AUTO’ and the FSX software set to ‘Use GCQ Barometer’.
  2. Then test the GCQuad with ‘Air Pressure’ set to ‘SEA LEVEL’ and the FSX software set to turn off the ‘Use GCQ Barometer’.

The device is calibrated at Sea Level so AUTO may default to this setting, which may or may not match your current location. Barometric pressure is not only elevation but a measure of the actual local atmosphere, including air density, humidity, etc.

Please keep in mind there is not a way to make this altitude adjustment on the GC2 device itself or within the iPad/iPhone apps.
